so try it with postfix. sendmail is worth avoiding as all but a last
resort.

why didn't listserv work with exim? it provides a sendmail-compatible
/usr/sbin/sendmail, and it accepts mail on port 25. either way should be
sufficient for a list manager to work.

BTW, sendmail is a particularly bad choice for mailing list servers,
especially on lists with lots of subscribers (thousands or hundreds
of thousands or more). convert any mailing list (no matter what list
manager software you are using) from sendmail to postfix and it will run
many times faster - lists that previously took hours or days to deliver
all mail will now deliver in minutes.

(contrary to some opinions the list manager software makes little or no
difference to delivery speed. the MLM provides ease-of-use features for
the owner/moderator and the subscribers. it is the MTA that determines
how efficiently the list messages are delivered).
