Pop problem

I'm building a new box (Sarge) and the pop server (courier) is giving me 
an odd error:


-ERR Maildir: No such file or directory
Connection closed by foreign host.

I've edited /etc/courier/pop3d to be /var/spool/mail and I'm still 
getting the error, even after a rebot.

Ideas?
