If you have to re-install, that's too much work right there, for a
start. I'd always use RAID (eg, mirroring or RAID5), so that the failure
of a single HDD won't result in server downtime, or wasted time during
the rebuild.

Secondly, you should be using a build system, so that deployment of a
new or replacement machine is a simple, automated job. 

The new Debian installer makes automated installs fairly
straightforward.  Alternatively, Progeny have ported Anaconda to Debian,
although I haven't looked at it yet, so I don't know its status is.
