I would be surprised if this worked with MTAs. There is too much
timing, atomicity, and inode stuff going on. For instance, it will
certainly not work with postfix.

Then again, you are trying to keep mailboxes in sync, not the mail
spools, right?

Mh... I still think offlineimap is the way to do this. It knows more
about mail than unison.
