Is your ethernet configured?

dmesg | grep eth

ifconfig -a

Is your gateway set to point to your Netgear router?

netstat -rn

Do you have the correct nameservers set up in /etc/resolv.conf?

Do some searches for LDP (Linux Documentation Project) -- there are
probably some HOWTOs to help you.

Good luck,
