Kernel buffers

Hi,

I have a server at work that currently have allocated a half of his memory
into buffers, and I wanna know if it's usual or it's any problem with the
kernel or misconfiguration... My /proc/meminfo shows:

total: used: free: shared: buffers: cached:
Mem: 529760256 525754368 4005888 62504960 249143296 224555008
Swap: 998514688 4739072 993775616
MemTotal: 517344 kB
MemFree: 3912 kB
MemShared: 61040 kB
Buffers: 243304 kB
Cached: 219292 kB
SwapTotal: 975112 kB
SwapFree: 970484 kB

Buffer cache eats up main protions of physical memory, currently
250Mb!!!. It's 'cos it's unused and the kernel leave it if any process
will need more memory or it's any other thing?

TIA.

The only "intuitive" interface is the nipple.
After that, it's all learned.
(in comp.os.linux.misc, on X interfaces.)
