non-standard user directories and apache

Hi!
We've got Debian Slink on one of our servers, running apache.
We'd like some user directories not directly under /home, but in some
subdirectories, eg:
/home/company1/userx
The question is: how to tell apache to serve this directory when one asks
for http://server/~userx/ ?
I can see
 UserDir /home/*/public_html
in srm.conf, but how to modify it? If removing the leading /home helps, (i
haven't tried it), won't it cause some security issues.

regards
Marcin
