I think that is on our side, which is good :)

It would be useful to keep up to date for two reasons, firstly if any
new FTBFS problems pop up we can see if this is the likely cause, and
secondly when the fix makes it into Debian binutils in some way or
another, we can know where to file bugs to get the libraries rebuilt.
I'll just have to figure out where it *started* breaking ...
