Re: Kernel 2.6, NVIDIA and 460GX

Hi everybody,

Just to let you know that something has changed again between kernel
2.6.11 and kernel 2.6.12-rc2, but in the right way this time. The NVIDIA
drivers 53.36/53.47 are working again on my hp workstation i2000 (first
generation Itanium CPU, Intel 460GX chipset) with a freshly recompiled
2.6.12-rc2 kernel. The NVIDIA drivers were previously broken since
kernel 2.6.7. Just a note: most of the 3D applications (with the notable
exception of glxinfo or glxgears) need that /usr/lib/tls/libGL.so.1 be
preloaded through LD_PRELOAD or in /etc/ld.so.preload. If not preloaded,
I'm getting segfaults with signal 11. A cosmetic detail:
the /var/log/XFree86.0.log now says that AGP was successfully set to 1X
(with pre-2.6.7 kernels, AGP is set to 0X and with 2.4 kernels, it is
correctly set to 4X). I don't know if this information is relevant since
the glxgears or quake2 FPS are the same than with 2.4 kernels.

Have a nice day and thanks to David for the information.
