To be more specific, if there are particular packages you want to track the 
status of, signing up as being interested in them with the Debian "package 
tracking system" at

   http://packages.qa.debian.org/

is the right thing to do.  You can control the types of events that you get
sent email about.  Not everything you can dream of is supported, but what it
can do is pretty useful...
