you're a little out of date:
willy@merulo:~$ xml2-config --version
2.4.6
willy@merulo:~$ xml2-config --cflags
-I/usr/include/libxml2/libxml -I/usr/include/libxml2 -I/include
willy@merulo:~$ xml2-config --libs
-lxml2
it'd be nice if /include were removed...
