dash, mksh, /bin/sh and translations of debconf

Hi,

I just had my sponsor upload a new mksh package to Debian which contains
the same debconf question as dash – whether to install it as /bin/sh.
This opens up a problem.

To the translators: To save you work, please don't start translating the
mksh entries right now, until we solved this problem (I'll send a separate
mail on this topic, there's no need to spam you with the intermediate mails
though, that's why I set a Reply-To header).

When dash has already diverted /bin/sh, mksh cannot do this (this error
is cought), and vice versa (silently ignored). So we probably should im-
plement something like in the “Choosing among related packages” section
of the Debconf Programmer's Tutorial, which can be found at
	http://www.fifi.org/doc/debconf-doc/tutorial.html

Maybe there are other shells which can be used for /bin/sh just fine,
for example pdksh, AT&T ksh, GNU bash (I don't know about zsh except
that its sh/ksh emulation modes really suck and have not much in common
with a real sh/ksh).

Gerrit, do you know whom else to Cc on this topic?

Thanks,
//mirabile
