I agree. Within teams, this should also apply. Each translator should be able to use whichever tool suits them, and suits the task best.
For example, I translate some of my files on Pootle, some in my specialized translation editor (LocFactoryEditor) and some in my text editor, depending on the situation.
This very flexibility will make it easier for translators to take on the task.
