Why removing out-of-date packages, many of them have patches
submitted/pending upload to be attended to by the maintainers _after_
Wheezy. Until Wheezy is released these packages will not be patched to
build on GNU/Hurd. Or is your plan to host these packages at
debian-ports?

A glibc bug, hopefully fixed in latest glibc? Not yet in 2.13-39+hurd.3.

Builds w/o problems by making minor changes.

A patch with somewhat reduced functionality is available if of interest.

A patch is available (review needed). Not submitted to the Debian BTS
due to the Wheezy freeze.
