buildd@beethoven:~$ su --version
su (GNU coreutils) 5.97
su returns `incorrect password' no matter what.

su (GNU coreutils) 5.96
Now login as root:
(mickey):~#su vincent
vincent@(mickey):/root$
Thus su does not fail on all cases.
