Now, the question is how to proceed from here.  It seems there is one
LX1 miniISO being distributed via rapidshare and mirrored at some lesser
known locations.

Ah, that is a quite good overview page with the europe mirror, good.

This would be awesome. I know there is a lot of debate about having /usr but I have run in to several issues with packages not building without a real /usr. One question that has always stuck out in my mind though is glibc. Isn't our glibc build using --prefix= ??
