Interface compatible to what? The um-pppd package comes from BSD, and the
pfinet tunnel device is interface compatible to BSD's tunnel device. So we
already do what you suggest: The traditional userland (um-pppd) is not
maintained by us, and we provide a compatible interface in the Hurd. We
just don't use the Linux approach but the BSD approach, which is more in
line with our design.
