Thanks for that. I also found it necessary to add the system's
hostname to /etc/hosts, and explictly set the FontPath to the font
directories and ignore a font server.

However, there's just one more problem to solve. When either using the
provided kbd or that built by my patched gnumach/hurd, the keyboard
input is garbled (mouse is fine)-- I'm seeing rubbish like "41~ p41~
2p" when hitting Return, and similarly for different keys. Would
anyone know the cause and cure?
