After writing a couple of clients and servers, I'm not sure I agree.
However, one translator I plan to do in my copious free time is a
zip-file-fs. This would be very cool, for all kinds of reasons.

Anyway, httpfs sounds a bit bogus to me: URLs have no hierarchical 
structure whatsoever, and there is no concept of directory.
