I usually go to
ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/unstable/main/binary-hurd-i386.

At any rate, you are correct -- due to the structure of our
FTP archive, we get some Linux things "bleeding" through to
the Hurd archive. This is because there are some packages
that are marked as "all", which are usually scripts or source
packages. This used to work fine, when we only had SPARC,
Intel, PPC, MIPS, etc., to deal with. Now that we have the
HURD running on Intel, some of these packages are not appropriate.

Perhaps we should post a list of "known good" packages.

You can be sure that if a package says "blah_blah-X_hurd-i386.deb"
it is safe.

Note that there are patched X binaries at ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/hurd
Under one of the contrib directories.
