Maybe youve already known it, but 128 MB max_swap is no longer actual
If you use 2.2 kernel make it:

   Device Boot   Start      End   Blocks   Id  System
/dev/hda1   *        1      653  5245222   83  Linux native
/dev/hda2          654      752   795217+  83  Linux native
/dev/hda3          753      784   257040   82  Linux swap

Im still having problems installing Hurd myself.
Boot stops after comports are scaned.
