apt is not ported yet, the available version number (1.9!) is a hint to this
fact.

dpkg --print-architecture is broken by design, as it is not specified in the
documentation. Should it be the cpu or the Debian port string? I never got
an answer from the dpkg developers. Use dpkg-architecture(1) in all cases
were you are tempted to use dpkg --print-architecture or any variant.

apt will be fixed by Brent and me. Please hold your breath or browse the
apt bug list (search for my name or "archtable").
