The GNU Hurd site (www.gnu.org/software/hurd) has a pointer to the
`easy guide' and also has a pointer to a mirror. I also couldn't
connect to the original site, but the mirror was okay.

The easy guide tells you to run MAKEDEV and tells you how to set up
the network and how to mount the other partitions. It also tells you
to copy over a few files from Linux.
