I had the same opinion, but Thomas convinced me otherwise. Remember that in
the Hurd, there is no real difference between a file and a directory. A
translator could for example provide a file content (a tar file), but on the
other side look like a directory (cd myfoo.tar.gz; ls). Of course, you may
argue that for conventional directories it should not be permitted, but now
I can ask "Why?" and you don't have a good answer.
cd to text files should NOT work. If it does, which versions of the Hurd and
glibc do you have?
Color'ed ls requires a colored terminal. The Hurd terminal does not support
ANSI colors. But if you telnet in from a Linux machine, and try "ls
--color=auto", you will notice that the software does support colored output
if the terminal does.
