There is a GCC patch for the CRC error seen on hppa:

It would be be useful to determine whether it also fixes the mips 
regression.  There is a good chance
as the change corrects a problem that was introduced after the release 
of 5.3, and the optimization
was only done when doing expensive-optimizations.  If it doesn't fix the 
mips regression, then a testcase
is needed for mips.
