I don't believe his problems have anything to do with SCSI termination.
I believe C3xxx use IDE DVD-ROM drives, not SCSI.
The key problems appeared to be (1) 64-bit kernel wouldn't boot and
(2) there is no public depot with prebuilt deb files.
The kernel which shipped with those CDs has bugs in TLB/cacheline management:

is dated Jan 2011, well before John David Anglin's fixes got included (IIRC).
I also doubt the CRC errors are a simple IDE driver bug. Device driver
bugs tend to fail to read media or hang/crash the machine. ie much
more dramatic types of failures. If you aren't seeing IO errors
reported in dmesg output, it's probably not IDE device driver.
Regarding mirror for hppa .debs: I don't know of one.
http://www.debian.org/ports/index#portlist-unreleased doesn't list one
and http://www.debian.org/ports/hppa/ doesn't either.
Lastly, there is a way to print stuff to the front LCD panel. See
http://www.cs.fsu.edu/~baker/devices/lxr/http/source/linux/drivers/parisc/led.c#L237
suggests writing a string to "/proc/pdc/lcd" will print the string on the panel.
