hi, sorry - further to my previous post - i have now updated my debian etch initial install to the debian testing stream by a simple update of my /etc/apt/sources.list - so am now running more recent stuff with the 2.6.22 kernel (all looking good!) - i got a hint about this by looking at several HPPA linux debian sites which highlighted development/testing etc machines and what they were running.... alan
