I indeed use 3.4:

hppa-linux-gcc -v
Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc/hppa-linux/3.4.1/specs Configured with:
../src/configure -v --enable-languages=c,c++ --prefix=/usr
--infodir=/usr/share/info --mandir=/usr/share/man
--with-gxx-include-dir=/usr/hppa-linux/include/g++ --enable-shared
--with-as=/usr/hppa-linux/bin/as --with-gnu-as --with-ld=/usr/hppa-linux/bin/ld
--with-gnu-ld --with-system-zlib --enable-long-long --enable-nls
--without-included-gettext --disable-checking --build=powerpc-linux
--host=powerpc-linux --target=hppa-linux Thread model: posix gcc version 3.4.1
(Debian 3.4.1-1)
