I was using 2.4.18, and dusted the machie off,
upgraded the kernel etc.
I compiled in Generic/Serial 15560 UART Support,
with some similar options nearby (I'm not at the machine right
now).
I know the modem(s) I've tested on the system work
on other computers (including serial cables, power supplies etc).
Minicom does not report anything when I try to send
AT commands to the modem, just dead space. dmesg says there are 3 serial
ports in all, ttyS0, ttyS1 and ttyS2. I've tried all with the same
results.
