well, with a newer compiler now it fails with an assembly error :)

that's good to know. Chris, can you try this for now? It may also
address the other (arts) assembler error if you can do that in arts too.
I'll need to do some more investigations to figure out what's happening
here. There are a few different causes of the "function-sections" 
warning.
