Problem with some X apps in headless configuration

Hello,

one of the machines I'm running palinux on is a true "headless" (735/125) 
that I'm using remotely via a X terminal app on a PC. Most af the 
applications work without any problems (windowmaker, dillo, gimp etc.), 
however two apps just refuse to come up, sylpheed (both regular and claws) 
and pan. There is no output at the prompt that indicates a problem, even 
using debug flags doesn't yield anything. They *do* work on other machines 
that have a local display, even when run remotely on them. Installed all 
the X server stuff but that didn't change anything, it's something else 
that's missing.

Any ideas ?
