The kernel 2.4.9-pa4 had a stupid PCI bug which crashed the kernel
on all non-PCI machines (e.g. 712/XX and 715/XX) and which I fixed 
in kernel 2.4.9-pa5.

Please update your kernel to the current CVS version, let the symlink 
/vmlinux point to this new kernel, re-run palo and try again.
