I think it is a lost cause. More and more package will require TH, new language features (e.g. annotations) require TH, so patching around it will not lead anywhere. I’d say we drop the packages on non-TH arches until someone complains, and only then, if there is an actual user need, provide a work-around. Or hope that the burden of suffering is great enough so that someone implements GHCi support for the arch in question.
