Compiled ghc6-6.12.1 from the experimental source packages on Ubuntu
9.10. Steps:

 a) Build ghc6 (disabled ependencey on a specific version of haddock)
    and install.
 b) Build haddock and install.
 c) Build ghc6 again with correct haddock dependency and install.

During the install of step c) I got:

    update-alternatives: warning: skip creation of /usr/bin/hasktags
    because associated file /usr/lib/ghc-6.12.1/bin/hasktags (of link
    group ghc) doesn't exist.

Looks like you have a update-alternatives for a binary that doesn't
exist.
