I was thinking about the igate functionality but thinking again about
it, Dire Wolf is not a GUI application, it can be run from our menu
but it doesn't show an error if I try to run it without a
configuration file at least.

I'm in favour of fixing any errors that may be in the desktop files,
but what is the purpose of the menus?

Do we want the menus to be useful for everybody or only for hams?
Do we show all ham software that is available in Debian or only those
with a GUI/TUI or only a selection?

The web pages about the blend[1] could be a better place to show
different types of software available.

it was Dave, not me, I would add a submenu for each hamradio-* package
but it would probably increase the mess,
but this reminded that I looked at this a while ago and wrote a Python
script to extract information from desktop files, however the output
is messy (see the attached HTML file which contains columns for
categories and also for keywords)
