Ideally, gr-osmosdr would just release a new version that includes
these patches.

I have already contacted them, but got no reply so far. They are probably not interested in releasing a new version at the moment since there were not any changes except the two patches and some build fixes since the last release and gr-osmosdr seems to have new versions usually released once a year or two.
