Bug#864841: Processed: Re: Bug#864841: Mixed paths

Morning all!

Brian, thanks for raising this to our attention - that's helpful.

The reason that URONode doesn't line up with ax25-tools in this case is
that I was clearing the Lintian error "non-standard-dir-in-var", which
as you can see here [1] ax25-tools still carries. It has been raised as
a bug in the past here [2] and a few other times.

The elegant solution to this I would say is for the FHS to recognise
/var/ax25 as valid in the next major release, and this bug exists here
[3] - I discussed this before the last release of FHS but they deemed it
not important enough to include.
We can always try again!

The inelegant solution in the time being is to change the uronode debian
package to target /var/ax25 - this will generate errors on our system,
but it'll ensure compatability. As we've hit stable and this isn't
security vital, it probably won't go into the main distribution, but I
plan to create a backport version from testing with other feedback from
the uronode mailing list anyway, so it can be lined up there.

As an aside, ax25-apps is at least listed as being in the
distribution[4], so there must have been lag in the repos.

Regards,

DH
