First, his name is Iain.
Second, there is no requirement to ask before removing names from the
Uploader list, especially if the debian/changelog shows that person
has never worked on or uploaded the package.
If you want to work on a package then it's a good idea to mention it
on the list (or in #debian-hams) to avoid duplication. There is
nothing stopping you (re-)adding your name when you are ready to
upload a package.
The arguments in Iain's reply to you are all valid. It has been very
difficult to discover who is doing what on any of the team packages
because of the vast number of names associated with them. Especially
when several of those names don't respond to email.

No it isn't *anything* like hijacking the package (he would need to
remove the team from the maintainer field for it to be a hijack).
