That is correct--the kernels which get installed with Debian do not support a lot of the modules, but the precompiled kernel-image packages do (I am running 2.4.26-1-686 from sarge).73, Bob On Sun, Aug 29, 2004 at 10:50:26AM +0200, François-Xavier ROL wrote:Le dimanche 29 Août 2004 06:10, Bob Nielsen a écrit :In the kernel 2.4.18 coming with the flavour bf24 the modules ax25 are NOT activated and in addition there is a little bug. Now I don't know which one to use for ham radio. If you install one of the Debian kernel-image packages, it will have the AX.25 and other modules, so you really don't need to compile your own. I believe that the latest kernel in woody is probably 2.4.18, so you should use: apt-get install kernel-image-2.4.18-1-386 (or whichever processor-optimized version you wish). OKthe kernel right now is debian 2.2.20-idepci so do i need to download and compile another one is that what you are saying. or If I download kernel-image-2.4.18-1.i386 can i just install it or do I have to compile it to support ax25 and other modules.
I am a first timer to do this. But I am game. Johnny
