Re: AX25 kernel compiling

Hi Again

Thanks to Ed & Bob for their help so far.

I tried installing 2.4.xx kernels with Apt-get and I keep getting errors when it tries to install it.

dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/kernel-image-2.4.18-1-386_2.4.18-13.1_i386.deb (--unpack):
subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/kernel-image-2.4.18-1-386_2.4.18-13.1_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

With the current kernel:

Linux debian 2.2.20 #1 Thu Feb 26 18:12:28 UTC 2004 i686 unknown

when I run kissatach I get:

kissattach: Error setting line discipline: TIOCSETD: Invalid argument
Are you sure you have enabled MKISS support in the kernel
or, if you made it a module, that the module is loaded?

Am I using apt properly and exacly what kernel version should I be trying to install?

I have tried

apt-get install kernel-image-2.2.20-386

and

apt-get install kernel-image-2.4.18-1-386

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately it didn't work!

I tried apt-get dist-upgrade and it upgraded xdm.

I tried apt-get install kernel etc

And it returns

e: Couldn't find package kernel etc

Any thoughts?

Yes. I do not have the original posts befoe me, but I suspect the sources list in /etc/apt is pointing at the stable package list and the 2.4 kernel in the stable branchis named differently. It is kernel-image-2.4.18-386.

try that and also show me what the sources list looks like in /et/apt.

good luck.
