True as that may be, it's pretty clear that there are many users who
would like to dispense with that need if they could.

Consider the Linux audio driver scenario .. many people rave about
RedHat because of its sndconfig tool.

I'd like users to have the option .. to have Debian work out of the box
for amateur radio .. and for that not to interfere with those of us who
want to roll our own.
