I upgraded my system to unstable so I'm forced to use Gamin. And I'm using the Debian package of gamin so I don't know if it's compiled with inotify support or not.. But it should be..
What happens if it's not compiled with inotify support ? So it won't poll or it won't work ? I started thinking that it's a GNOME problem because I tried almost everything like recompiling the kernel with a different inotify patch, reinstalling fam or gamin.. I mean I tried both but it's not working.. Even I upgraded to unstable if it works but it doesn't..

Are you using FAM (which doesn't support inotify and would resort to
polling) or gamin? If you're using gamin, are you sure it is compiled
with inotify support?
