Just for the record, I am experiencing the same (since a couple of days back). 
On login nautilus just shows a grey background. After trying to set a new background image
now every time I login nautilus crashes (and the common restart/close/inform_developers dialog
pops up). When I hit on close nautilus starts up fine...

I'm out of ideas what might be the problem, i'm running sid btw...
