No it won't work in sid's Gnome 2.8. It was decided not to build gnome-vfs2 
against howl, because that package was in a bad state (bad upstream library
versioning).

The new howl upstream release has fixed this. So it is possible that it will be
enabled again, when that version hits unstable.
