Splash screen that won't die

Hi all,

I just did a clean reinstall of sid on my powerpc laptop, due to a hard
drive failure :-( [OK, I cheated a little -- I reinstalled the base
packages from a woody cd that I already had, edited sources.list for
unstable and then installed everything else.] So the ~/.gnome*
directories should be brand new with no bitrot.

Since reinstalling, whenever I log into Gnome (via startx -- I have not
installed any ?dm packages), the splash screen doesn't go away after the
Gnome session starts. I have to click on it to make it disappear.
Minor bug, I know, but rather annoying. What package should I file this
against, and is there a quick fix with gconf?

regards,
