gnome-volume-manager: does not receive any messages
Package: gnome-volume-manager
Version: 0.9.0-3
Severity: normal
[Cc'd to debian-gtk-gnome]
Sorry if this report is rather unspecific. I Don't have any clue where
to start looking for the culprit as the whole new family of daemons that
have to be installed for gnome-volume-manager makes identifying it
rather difficult.
Furthermore I have no idea which package is really to blame -
gnome-volume-manager, udev, hal, dbus-1 are the obvious candidates.
O.k.
I have installed gnome-volume-manager which forced udev and some others
onto my system. (I had some fighting with udev until it stopped breaking
my system.) Now it is running in devfsd compatibility style.
(udev-devfs.rules and udev-compat.rules are enabled).
Configuration of dbus-1 and hal are unchanged from factory settings. In
gnome-volume-manager all options that apply to my system (auto-mount
cds, auto-play dvds, autorun autostart programs, auto-play audio cds,
open ♣CD burner program on empty CDs) are enabled.
Iserting a new data CD has no visible consequences. It is not auto
mounted, the "CD-Rom" icon in the "Computer" location remains unchanged.
On unmounting, the CD is not ejected. Also, DVDs and empty CDs are
ignored.
Starting gnome-volume-manager on the command line does produce any
helpful output.
I read:
manager.c/733: unhandled dbus message: ServiceAcquired from
org.freedesktop.DBus
After that, gnome-volume-manager remains silent. I.e. inserting &
removing media does not produce any output.
I have tried my CD/DVD drives both with ide-cd and ide-scsi. Both
modules bring up the respective devices in /dev. So udev ѕeems to work
as expected.
Thanks,
Johannes
