Well, gnome 2.4 is here, and the bug is still here too. Anyone on the
list has any clue of what package should be blamed for that, if any?

To summarize the problem: choose an italic font, and see what happens in
some text boxes. With vera sans or arial, everything is fine, but with
nimbus sans or freesans, the font metrics are wrong and the text is
cropped. I first suspected the fonts themselves, but the submitter
claims they look fine with garnome.
