No, he tried that already, with a .xinitrc that calls gnome-session, and no luck either. What Carlos Perelló told me on IRC last night is interesting. From the logs: SESSION_MANAGER=local/neurotico:/tmp/.ICE-unix/5631 and 266 ? S 0:01 /usr/bin/gnome-session --purge-delay=15000 SESSION_MANAGER should refer to pid 266, not 5631. When I talk to my cousin again, I'll tell him to check that out. I'm suspecting he has a bad /etc/hosts, or something, too.
