Whenever I resume activity after the screen saver or the monitor's power saving feature kicked in, my keyboard just refuses to work, no keystroke will be displayed until I unplug/replug the keayboard (USB).
did you try to disable DPMS (in your XF86Config) ?(again: how is this related to *.gtk.gnome? try finding a better ng for this, some linux-in-general or Xfree86 newsgroup or so)
