It's just a matter of changing defaults. That's not a huge issue - look at
the defaults that Red Hat has changed in their 2.x-based desktops, and I
guarantee you that Ximian will have some different GConf defaults in XD2.

If there's a sensible alternative to use for this purpose, that ought to be
the default in Debian. Users can change what they want in the control panel.

[ All of this is well and good, but the text editor stuff doesn't seem to be
a GConf setting anyway. :-) ]
